Well i finally got a couple of days off ...

Well, I finally got a couple of days off work, so I decided to head to London for the weekend. I drove up to Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, parked my car, and jumped on a train to London. It only took about 4 hours for the whole ordeal. Once in London, I caught a taxi to the Forum hotel in Kensington. I only had a short time to see all of the sites, so I got up early on Saturday, and took off to see the city. London was a great change for me. I felt like the city had a lot of character, ...

The craziest nights are spent with the best of friends. Open bars at Sound and paraphernalia-hunting at Soho made the days as wild as the nights. Spent one whole day touring with erick, which was one of the highlights of my trip :)

London bridge is falling down

Well I am back in the truly cosmopolitan city of London and it has been a chilly reception. I don't mean the people - its the weather. When I boarded my BA flight out of Johannesburg,it was balmy 27 degrees Celsius. When I landed it was -3 degrees Celsius. It was a bit of a shock to the system but I took it with all the grace that I could. Mum and I spent the first day of our return journey ensconced in the comfort of our hotel room - mostly because we were exhausted. There was no point in pushi...

London under siege

Obama mania and the G20 summit hit London at the same time - what a combination for me. I really wanted to get close enough to Barack Obama to see him but I didn't want to risk my life for it. With that in mind I decided that I would avoid the Square Mile i.e. the oldest part of London and the heart of the London financial district for the next two days. Seems like a good plan - lets implement it. As a comment, the protesters at the G20 summit are protesting against capitalistic system that h...

These are the touring days of our lives

After a late evening at the theater the night before, we had to be up early for the only tour that we had booked for the trip. It was a 10,5 hour tour to Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Oxford. This was a select tour which meant that the there was no real tour guide to speak of at the respective locations but there are time limits to each of the locations. We were accompanied by a tour guide called Mel who also conducted a free walking tour of Oxford of approximately 40 minutes to give you an i...

The Mother of all department stores - Harrods

Spent Saturday in the best possible way - with my family in Basingstoke. It was an amazing day which was filled with familiar laughter and happiness. It was fun catching up, reminiscing and planning for the future.Yax and Addy have a 10 week old baby girl who is the reason that I am in the UK. Tigger is definitely going to bring happiness to all of us. It was a long day for all of us but one that we all enjoyed immensely. Sunday was the last day of the leg in London and we were both exhausted....

Day 1-London

We got to London today around 1 in the after noon and checked into our hotel, which happened to be a Holiday Inn.  Our tour guide took us to Covent Garden, which isn't exactly a garden, but has a lot of shops and street entertainers.  I was able to buy a scarf and hat there and see a guy singing opera on the street who I thought was very good (the street entertainers have to audition to be I the Covent Gardens area).  After the Gardens we went to the theater and saw a production of "Wicked" w...

Day 2-London

Today we had a full day tour of London.  We went to Westminster Abbey first and took an hour tour where we saw the tombs and commemorations of famous and influential people such as Sir Isaac Newton, Jane Austen, William Shakespeare, and lots of others.  Then we walked to Buckingham Palace where we saw the changing of the guards and got great views of the Palace.  After the guard change we headed over to Covent Garden to eat and go shopping and then to London Tower where the Crown Jewels and A...

Day 3-London

We had a whole day to tour London on our own.  In the morning I went to a farmer's market in Notting Hill with my roommate and two of her friends.  The market was like any other market with lots of knick-knacks and useless "stuff."  Then we had tea with a Brit that Cammy, one of my roommate's friends knows and she showed us a small coffee shop that was all organic and really cute.  The other girls were going shopping again, so I left the market and went to the British Museum via the Tube, yes...

Off to London!

Today was an all travel day for our crew as we headed to the country of Bloody Ole England. I can tell you this bloak is ready to cross the channel and head to a pub for brew.

We headed off early to drive to Calais where we had lunch at a local Holiday Inn. Then on to the chunnel for the train ride across to England. We actually ride on the bus on the train in the chunnel. Kind of weird.

We did not arrive in London until late in the evening so not much to report today as...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Holiday Inn London-Kensington-Forum

Recommend highly...

Nov 12-15, 2003 I had the pleasure of staying in the this Holiday Inn on Cromwell. This is the high rise Forum and not to be mistaken with the other Holiday Inn across the street. It is wonderful access to everything. I took the Piccadilly Line straight from Heathrow to Glouster Road (about 10 dollars w/return), walked out of the tube, took a left and the hotel was there. The staff were very attentive and helpful. I stayed 3 nights and was supposed to have a single for the first 2 nights and a triple for the last night and they offered me the triple room for the same price all three nights so I would not have to change rooms. The room was clean and the maid left extra pillows and towels on my request within 15 minutes. The concierge I met was the best. He helped me with all my arrangements and great directions which is important when traveling alone. The area is beautiful and safe. Good location for taking nice walks. The only disagreeable I can say is sometimes when coming in from outside the lobby smelled of smoke, but otherwise I would recommend this to both singles and families.

Great Hotel - In an Excellent area.

Within one block is a tube station, a currency exchange, Starbucks, 24-hour store and bank. The rooms are small but well suited.... all in all a very nice hotel.

Great room, fabulous price, wonderful location!

Stayed at the Kensington Forum in August 2003 and was very, very impressed. It's a big hotel, and feels recently renovated. Through Expedia, I got a room for $120 Canadian/night. It turned out to be very spacious, clean, and everything felt quite new and well maintained. Even the bathroom was huge, with a soaker tub and shower. Two twin beds in the room had nice duvets rather than scratchy hotel blankets on them. The location was fabulous. It's right around the corner from Gloucester Road tube station which is on the Piccadilly line and very convenient if you like to go to theatre in the West End. There are quite a few shops near Gloucester Road station, including a big Waitrose supermarket. The neighbourhood felt safe too. Holiday Inn K-F also has an all-day baggage check room, so the day you arrive or leave, you are free to store your bags in there, and get them at your convenience. Very handy for early arrivals before check-in time or late departures. Can't say enough about how pleased I was with this hotel!

London, we miss you!

My daughter and I stayed during the latter part of June for 7 nights.

We loved the clean rooms (although small, but hey! it's Europe). The Continental breakfast was included in our rate and it was quite satisfying; the service was great, everyone was friendly. The hotel is in the great Kensington area of London, quiet, safe and conveniently located a block from the Gloucester Underground station. Very busy hotel, lobby usually packed with people arriving or departing, but all very organized. We wouldn't mind staying there again!!

Inns and outs

Went mid April, special rate 60 pounds and very good value, rooms small but well designed and very comfortable, window opens too, bathroom excellent , few staff are english born so this is no "little england", all want to help and the concierge desk was good, apart from a close Waitrose supermarket(excellent) and some other few shops the area is residential and cafes/restaurants mediocre at best, breakfast in the hotel is satisfying but too expensive, very convenient to Gloucester road tube and buses(much improved), if you spend much time in central London I suggest finding a hotel closer in, remember London's infrastructure is creaking badly, it's dirty/scruffy and the division between rich and poor growing too fast, if you want to feel the real britain get well out of the London area/influence. If staying/based in town do not rent a car, parking is rare and viciously expensive and now there is an add on "congestion" charge for driving in the core areas, this was a good hotel for 6 nights, if you neeed a good step up try Millenium Goucester, or Baileys (too chintsy ?) close by.....take lots of money and pace ypurself, you won't begin to uncover the city or understand its history in a week!

Excellent Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
My experience with the Holiday Inn London Forum was wonderful. My cousin and I arrived late on a Saturday night and were very dissapointed by the hotel that we had booked our room with. We walked six blocks to the Holiday Inn and explained our situation. They graciously put us into an executive suite room for the night and then offered us a special rate for the week that included breakfast. The room was clean, modern and we mostly importantly felt safe. I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.

Very dissapointed

Brown water out of the bathroom tap...15 pounds for a less than average breakfast buffet. No hot water in my shower for well over 24 hours after 2 calls to maintenance. A missed wake up call because the person at the front desk didn't speak English enough to understand me. Smaller than normal room. All these things are what is leading me to write this review. After reading the ones already on the web site I thought we had found an oasis in the storm that is London. We decided to go with the Holiday Inn because of their good reputation world wide and we ended up being rather disappointed. Stay away from the buffet and go to the local bakery down the street..save yourself the money. The service was horrible and the food was average at best. No where near worth the ridiculous price that they charge. What a rip off!!The room was nicely remodeled with a very good bed and pillows but it felt like a closet. I have stayed in B and B rooms for the same price that were 3 times the size. All this being said...the neighborhood is convient and homey feeling. There is a grocery store right around the corner and the tube station is not much further. The hotel does feel very safe if the service is a bit lacking. I wouldn't go back to the hotel but I definitely stay in that neighborhood again. Save yourself the trouble and go to a local b and b...the street the Holiday Inn is on is littered with them. This would be an ok hotel if you are not looking for the personal touch that a b and b can give. It was overpriced and impersonal. But if you like that..sign up.

Great Deal

My wife and I stayed here in March of 2003. The hotel is going through renovation and we were lucky enough to get a new room. The room itself was wonderful and big for London standards. It had a modern comfortable look. We got into London at 8am and they let us check-in at 9am. It has over 900 rooms so for us early check-in was no problem. I paid about $100 U.S. for the room. I booked it 2 weeks before we left on the Holiday Inn web site which I found was the cheapest. The hotel is 2 blocks(3 minute walk) from the Gloucester Tube Station. For me it was a great hotel at a good value

Very good

Me and my girlfriend visited London last October and stayed at the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum. We were supposed to stay at another hotel, but for some reason (no rooms available or whatever) the travel agency ended up taking us to the Holiday Inn.I must say we had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were very nice, comfortable, quiet, and extremely clean. The buffet breakfast was incredible, with an included continental one (the english one was a little bit expensive, but worth it). I would definitely stay again at this hotel, and I find it highly recomendable for anyone. I think the little expensiveness of the english breakfast had something to do with the pound thing (the pound itself is extremely, I would say stupidly, expensive, and that's all the secret of it). The deposit you are bound to leave when you arrive is also outrageous, but that's not a problem, as they give it back to you when you check out.

Very Comfortable and Convenient

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Hiday Inn/Forum last November and found it quite comfortable and very convenient. The room was perfectly adequate although certainly not luxurious. The clientele was mostly business with a lot of airline and Japanese groups. They even have a Japanese breakfast buffet. It is about a 30 second walk to the Gloucester Road tube station which is on 3 lines so you can get anywhere in London pretty quickly. However, Kensingon is pretty quiet so if you are looking for a lot of exciting night life you should go elsewhere.
