We decided to take today as a recovery day so we slept in a little and went for a leisurely breakfast before heading out from our hotel. We were able to walk to all of our destinations today. Our first stop was the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum. This museum introduces the daily life and culture of Fukuoka City during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Craft products and souvenirs such as Hakata Ori (folk woven textile) and Hakata dolls are ...

There is also an underground passageway, called the Kuragari-Truro, as it is dark even during the day (there are lights so you can see your way) and it is the official entrance to the palace - one of the few examples of palaces with this type of underground passage. The beams used in the passageway are whole trees.

Inside the castle is now a ...

... have never experienced an onsen, and it was great! We entered the building and paid for a towel. We asked for a big towel, which ended up the size of a tea towel, I guess the small size must have been a facecloth!

Men and women bathed separately at our Onsen and there is something really liberating about getting naked in a pool of really hot water with a few women, chatting about this and that. The process of getting into the water is quite stylised, with small ...
