... on the street, but they have these little on-street fenced areas where people can smoke (just like being in isolation ward). They may have non smoking areas in restaurants but the smoking section can be right next to you. You book a non smoking room, but some still smell of smoke, possibly ingrained in furnishings before changes were made. Not enjoyable for sensitive non-smoking noses.

... we would be served an egg and toast but no – we had soup & salad and egg & ham, fruit & yogurt as well as toast, oh and coffee too. Most lunches we would eat at a restaurant at an average price of about $8 each. This morning, we left Dogo Onsen early to catch a tram, a train and a ferry to Beppu, located on the Kyushu island. This is the last island we will be visiting. The boat trip to Beppu is quite long (almost 3 hours) and there are few places to sit. So we are adopting the local approach: take off your shoes and lie down / sit on the tatamis.
