Today was a bit of a spare day, due to Nara being a shorter trip than planned, so I decided to head to Okayama which is on the route towards my next hostels destination of Hiroshima. Similarly to Himeji, Okayama has a castle and a famous garden(one of the top 3 in all of Japan) so I spent the late morning and early afternoon pottering around these sights. These two were hidden gems that are mainly missed off tourist itineraries. The castle, known ...

Nattou icecream

Yes, nattou ice cream. Maybe you've heard of nattou before? It's fermented beans, very popular with a raw egg. I'm not a fan of it, but the first time I tried it, I excepted it to taste worse. Tonight we had nattou icecream which is basically any flavor of ice cream with a bit of nattou. Then mix well and you're done! Today was a nice day. After cutting peaches in the morning, I went to the market. It was very hot and there weren't a lot of people at the bwginning, only after almost two hours people came by and bought something ^^ Every day we set a goal of how much we have to sell to go home earlier. If we don't reach the goal we stay at the market for three hours. As the peachseason is ...

Usually when I take Kanta (the dog) for a walk I go the same route. Following the road behind the guesthouse untill you reach the pound. Then you turn right and left again and from then on you follow the path into the woods. It's nice to walk after it has been raining since there are a lot of spiderwebs which then become fulk with raindrops :) But today I discovered a new way! The fence was closed so I decided to take ...

Okayama

... castle you can go up 'till the 7th floor and then go down. They have some old stuff like samurai outfits and scrolls but unfortunately you're not allowed to take pictures of them. After the castle we went to the Korakuen, it's one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. At least that's what they say, since it was so hot we could only see a small part of it since we didn't want to be in the sun too much. Later we went to have something to eat and then the other girl decided ...
