      Takayama to Kanazawa

... first area we searched taking a couple earlier turns and low and behold we found it. Japanese restaurants lined the streets! Our next problem became that we could not read any of the posted menus and several of the pictures looked a little extreme with the plates and plates of funky looking raw fish. We circled the area once, then started the second loop feeling quite disheartened. Finally, we picked a restaurant strictly based on the outdoor aesthetic. Among all ...

... quite beautiful and unique to anything we have seen so far. We picked up a second umbrella as we had learned in Singapore sharing one between two people is not particularly successful at keeping either person dry. ... not much to see so wandered back to that same cafe as yesterday's breaky for a coffee and a defrost. Them popped next door for a tofu burger for lunch. This was our last morning in Takayama, and now heading back to Tokyo on the train via Nagoya. Have really enjoyed it here. Probably the most tourist friendly with all the signage and English menus etc, but somehow also the least touristy, with almost no shity tourist shops or ...

      Matsumoto Castle

Matsumoto-jō is Japan's oldest wooden castle. I had great fun exploring the inside, climbing the crazy steep staircases, deciding which room I would choose if I lived there and thinking how freezing it would have been in the winter!! Great views and token pictures with ninjas! Love a ...
