... Moto Hakone port and picturesque Lake Ashi (part of Hakone National Park). On a clear day Mt. Fuji appears beyond the northwestern lakeshore, but it was a mostly cloudy kind of day. I am also beginning to realize that Fuji is perhaps the shyest mountain in existence; I was not surprised it remained hidden. Hungry, we quickly found a bakery recommend by my friend Annaliesse and grabbed some yummy pastries to snack on. Unfortunately the foot bath seats (yes, they had ...

... girls go to the shrine to receive a blessing and then boys go again at age 5 and girls at age 7. They were rather cute! From there we went on to the Japanese art gallery which had magnificent views of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. Next step was the trip across the lake in a pirate ship - Jonny Depp could have been on board. From there it was back down to our accommodation. This is quite an experience. It's a large hotel and shoes are removed at the front door and put into lockers. Many ...

... and completed in 2007. At the end was an interesting little exhibition outlining how the Sekisho worked. Leading up to the Sekisho is a parade of magnificent Cedar trees, aged over four hundred years old. Before heading back to the warm and dry of our Inn, we visited an old Shinto Shrine with a floating red torii (gate) in Lake Ashi.

Well, we're now back in Tokyo and I think we may weaken and have some "western" food! It's still overcast and probably a day for a bit of ...
