Today we went to a mountain area nearby to visit a waterfall and see (along with many other buses of Japanese tourists) the koyo, the wonderful shades of yellows, oranges, and reds that the trees have right now! The colours are so strong and varied that it is a really beautiful sight.

... Japanese lunch with our hosts, and on our way back we saw an animal on the road: at first I thought it was a dog, but as we got closer and it jumped ahead of us, we realised it was a monkey!!! Snow monkeys, rotemburo and a rather pleasant meal

The keepers put wheat out to entice the monkeys to come down off the rocks. Some of the wheat went in the pond and the monkeys patiently fished it out.
