... t think windsurfing was legal on the big crater lake near the top of the volcano and that nobody he knew of rented windsurfing equipment on the beach near Chiringashima.

With that slight disappointment I inquired whether there might be bikes for rent here at the Ryokan. Oyama-san said not here at the hotel but that there are e-bikes to rent right at the train station. Well, my plan of course was to bike around the beach area and try to find a windsurfer, SUP, ...

... accident. At that time, he needed help to walk around and kept saying, "Abdominales" as a crutch word even as he spoke Japanese. He had a little difficulty communicating but we did have conversations, in between his crutch word for "crunches". I do remember even back in Mexico, he wanted all the gymnasts to do a lot of crunches. It is so fascinating how the mind works....

... shovels to bury us alive under a bamboo gazebo!

Well, not quite. They wrapped towels around our heads so they wouldn't get sandy, then buried us up to our necks in the warm, volcanic steam-heated sand. They advise staying for 10 minutes, but everyone else there stayed for longer so we spent a very relaxing 20 minutes under the warm sand, in the shade, listening to the waves and the eagles flying around.
