    ... so you were expected to do all of your washing in the onsen. After a long day on your feet it was very nice to relax and cook yourself in the hot water... Our room also had a traditional $500 toilet seat, this one heated and offering you even more services once you finished your business! Tomorrow we have a traditional Japanese breakfast at the ryokan which again is included in our stay. From there it is off to Kyoto which is apparently much more traditional than modern ...

    ... for all over town. As a geologist, I picked the Yamanashi Gem Museum. It was another waste of money. The exhibit was not anything unique to the area and was a let down compared to many other free exhibits I have seen. Oh well. I then walked over the bring, enjoyed the sunset over Lake Kawaguchiko and enjoyed a nice walk around the lake.
    The day ended with me trying to figure out how to get back to my hotel. I met a random American girl ...

    ... we could walk at a normal pace. We climbed the stairs to the main shrine dedicated to one of the goddesses of the sea. We continued to meander the path climbing up and down stairs past statues, gardens and additional shrines.
