Trip to Yudanaka to see the Snow Monkeys

A travel blog entry by kirstyollie

... path enjoying the peace and quiet and the views. When we arrived we couldn't believe what we saw. At the bottom of the mountain near a stream someone who worked at the park was spreading out food from a bucket. As we got closer we could see the trees and bushes moving as hundreds of monkeys made there way down the mountain towards the food. They moved so effortlessly off the steep mountain, bounding across the rocks over the stream. We spent ages ...

An Epic ride up Mt. Shirane

These monkeys number about 200 and apparently not all of them like the thermal pools. We walked over a footbridge over the river below and the monkeys were lounging about all around us. There were signs telling us how to behave (eg don't touch the monkeys, don't look them in the ...

The day I met Hokusai in an Onsen

... in rural areas it seems.

Back in the hostel after dining in the very same restaurant I'm in now, I'm given a local beer by the host and enjoy a hilarious conversation, largely being a practice of saying hello, good morning etc. in every language as well as some life advice in broken but hilarious English by my ...
