    ... back to the main Beppu station. It seems the easiest way ( and I use that term loosely) is to get a taxi. Well after showing the taxi driver the map and where we want to go he says 'ahhhhhh Lopeway' so we confidently know we are on the same page. ¥2000 later we are at the Ropeway station and after the staff making sure we understand that we are not going to see much because it's so cloudy, we pay our money and go anyway.     ... of internal monologue to build up the courage to get down to by birthday suit, wrap myself in a towel and try to find the showers.

    Right. The showers. There were no showers. There were rows with stalls just under the covered patio just before the onsen pools. You pretty much sit on a small stool at a cubicle/stall and wash yourself. I do have to admit that the shampoo was quite lovely.

    ... I had the general idea but the actual map from google was very confusing. I knew that I had until 11AM before I had to check out. I was emailing Hidaka-san asking for direction and maybe a picture of how to get there. I had received nothing from him by 11, and I had to scramble to find someplace with Wifi I could crash at to get his email.

    ... luck to be the only one there. I took three onsen baths today. I loved each and every one of them. The dinner I got at the ryokan was the most culinairy thing I had until that day. My apologies about the huge amount of food pictures! The food felt so special, I just had to take pictures of it. The small bowls of Japanese food were all local products and really pretty.
