Day 7: Rainy Day in Old Town
... We've had our fair share of tempura but never this way. The restaurant seats about 10 and its all at the bar. We ordered a set menu of an assortment of fried seafood and vegetables. And yes you guessed it, and a ice cold beer for me. The chef/owner fries everything right in front of you and places it on your dish sizzling hot. When our first piece of shrimp tempura came, the chef gave us a quick lesson on how to eat tempura. I thought to myself o please. I know how to eat ...

Both dishes were very beautifully garnished with sides of potatoe, bacon, spinach and radish. For those ...
Yosemite of Japan: Kamikochi
... the highlights of Japan. We hiked to the top of a mountain range where we hiked down into the valley of Kamikochi, the forest that is compared to Yosemite National Park in California.
Gorgeous scenery and fall colours definitely takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

The oldest castle in Japan
We've spent one night in Matsumoto, at a nice little hostel that gave us bikes for free! So we explored Matsumoto, which is not very big and very "bike-friendly", and visited Matsumoto Castle. It is the oldest castle in Japan and one of the four National Treasures of Japan. It is definitely impressive! We went up to the sixth floor on very steep staircases, with a nice Japanese tour ...
