    ... hibachi. The meat was really nice and the cooking fun.

    After lunch we walked around some more and I purchased my first major souvenir - a set of very good quality chopsticks. The store even engraved my name on them in Kanji.

    I ended my day in Takayama with a green tea ice cream. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't rush out to buy another one.

    Tomorrow will be another morning spent on trains as we head off to ...

    Today we said goodbye to Hakone and headed off to Takayama.

    We caught a bus to Odawara train station and then boarded a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya. Top speed of the train was 275kph. Im really impressed with how smooth the ride was. As the weather was fine we got another chance to see Mt Fuji as the train zoomed by.

    ... is the chanwashi which is a steamed egg custard, but I do like eggs so might notice that have chosen egg 3 ways. Just for your amusement I also chose the fries - I think they are a version of hash browns - I promise I didn't eat them -we'll maybe one or two.     ... stone has been put in by hand and cemented in place and looks 'natural'. River teaming with carp. Elderly gentlemen are tending the grass at the river edge using weed cutters and no lawnmowers in sight. They sweep back and forth like scything hay, for kilometres.
