    ... trying to scale the stone walls is called "ishiotoshi". These outlets were built into the east, west and north walls of the first and second floors of the watchtower. It is quite a majestic structure. The castle walls didn't look quite as steep as some we have seen, but their defence measures must have been quite successful as the castle claims to have never been damaged by war and is the only remaining castle in the Sarin area.

    ... house overlooking a beautiful garden - felt like we were back in time in the old, traditional Japan.

    After catching japanese birds on the camera we stopped at one of Matsue's sweet / souvenir shops - where every item looked so unfamiliar, we have never felt so strange in the sweet shop before!

    Today was our day at Kashima Junior High School. Tayla, Devon and Ethan all turned up with smiles on their faces, so that is always a good sign! kashima JHS is a small middle school with only 160 students. The school, however, is pretty big. I thought he was just feeling a bit run down, but then I realized he might really mean it. I asked if he felt sick and he said that he did, so we decided that graham would take home back to the hotel. Unfortunately, he didn't make it back before vomiting in the bus! Poor Graham and Tyler!
