    ... The parade is accompanied by musicians in traditional Japanese costumes, quite an interesting and colorful event. The elephant made of paper is very large and being pulled by the boys with help of adults. We watch them parade around the Yubatake and go up the old, stone staircase to the Temple. We take a closer look at the Yubatake where the water gushes down day in day out, 4.000 liters of hot water per minute!

    ... Shinkansen station. Friendly young man who tries his very best to speak English with us. We are given a Subaru Impreza. He kindly sets the GPS to "English" and enters the phone number of the hotel where we stay tonight. In Japan you enter phone numbers into a GPS system and no street names. Leaving Nagano on the tollway and stopping at the first, and as it turns out also the only rest stop for a quick bite. The sun is out and it is 23C....! Soon the ...

    ... out to find the ‘Express’ bus to the park. To be clear, we had already traveled:

    • 15 minute shuttle ride from the hotel to Shinjuku station.
    • 20 minute train ride from Shinjuku station to Tokyo station.
    • 90 minute shinkansen ride from Tokyo station to Nagano station.
    Now we needed to take:
    • 45 minute bus ride to Kabayashi Onsen stop.

    ... the floor.
    Our room overlooks the train line and Nagano train station, so we get to see the trains come and go, even the Shinkansen.
    We take a walk around the area and find a supermarket to get some breakfast supplies.
