... the Taiwanese couple had walked 50m and found the Ryokan and called us on. We all left our bags and went back to catch the train up to Souzan. At Souzan it was starting to get colder as we transferred to the gondola ropeway. I had mentioned to mum that we were meant to be able to see Mt Fuji from the half way point in the gondola. We got to a crest and immediately saw the top of Mt Fuji pop out of the snow haze. WOW!!! It took our breath ...

Our destination was Owakudani, a sulphar geiser that didn't have an overpowering stench, but if the sulphur cloud was blown in your direction from the wind you had to hold your breath. The fumes were abrasive to your lungs and is not a pleasant experience. The area is also known for black eggs, boiled in the geiser ...

Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...
