      ... patches of bamboo. Lakes and rivers abound. Often the mountains extend all the way to the ocean. Vistas provide picturesque panoramas of multiple small islands dotting the blue ocean waters. It has been a cycling paradise, although challenging because of the mountains. It is easy to forget the burning sensation in my legs and instead enjoy the rewarding beauty of the journey.

      ... or Oven Hell which was once used for cooking. Oni-Yama Jigoku is next Devil's Mountain Hell and Yama Jigoku or Mountain Hell make six. At Mountain Hell there were animals in enclosures.       ... has just a few minutes delay and we should make our connection. The train journey is very pretty but there is again a lot of mist so the view of the inland sea is limited. Beppu is a very attractive town which is a popular holiday resort during better weather. The university is in the mountains and so there was quite severe snow up there and Maki's daughter, Rina, had her classes cancelled.
