Oh and the shopping, well, I'm just trying to keep it under control! The next day we went to Miyajima. Miyajima is an island near Hiroshima, a 10 min. ferry ride. This place is best known for a Torii shrine in the water. Maybe you've seen this before. We arrived in the morning and were able to walk and see ...

... budge! We will try and find out.

We went into one of the local eating places for lunch. They have a system where you buy a ticket for what you want to eat - there are pictures available to help you with your choice. We were helped by the waitress who worked there, who was from Nepal, living in Japan while studying Japanese. she told us she worked 50 hours a week and considered herself well paid. Goodness knows when she had time to study. She spoke very good English ...

    Hagi

On a lighter note, this is Hagi a town filled with pottery and orange groves. A place to sooth the soul with beauty. Bizarrely there was a gigantic modern building dedicated to ceramics in this quiet little island town. Incredible professional pottery in the museum and shops overflowing with more pots. No vanilla ice cream in this town, only orange. Made a change from seeing green tea ice ...
