... The parade is accompanied by musicians in traditional Japanese costumes, quite an interesting and colorful event. The elephant made of paper is very large and being pulled by the boys with help of adults. We watch them parade around the Yubatake and go up the old, stone staircase to the Temple. We take a closer look at the Yubatake where the water gushes down day in day out, 4.000 liters of hot water per minute!
There is also a public footbath and we ...

... descend and after seeing threatening clouds it finally starts to rain. Kusatsu is located at about 1200 meters and there is a lot of greenery everywhere. The GPS takes us straight to the hotel, no problems there! Hotel Village, located just outside of the village of Kusatsu. ... hard to explore the temple area, so after watching some of the ceremonies we leave and will come back tomorrow.
The rain holds out for the procession, but it starts to drizzle as we leave the temple. Cant complain as we have been really lucky with the weather.
The rest of the days is spent wandering the main part of town

    ... for sledging.

Back to the hotel for a quick pack up and then the long journey back to Tokyo airport with bus, bus, train, train, bus. All a lot of fun in Japan and that probably sums up Japan. The people are the most polite and respectful I’ve ever met. Everything is very different but really interesting and it’s definitely a country that I’d like to come back to. The skiing was great and although ...
