    We felt very privileged and were treated very well in the ryokans, I'll miss Japan.

    We also enjoyed the 7 samurai home village, with bonsai and the intriguing kanakasi airplane fighters museum with photos of all of them. They looked so young and an old man giving a talk about it, still a lot of interest, after all these decades. No photos allowed.

    Next day we had half a day before leaving Kagoshima, this is one of our favourite cities since amongst other things it has a good tram system, also some great arcades and the port area great views of the volcano Sakurajima, this is about 20 min ferry ride away many people live there and it is still active - a bit like Mt Etna I suppose.

    We arrive in Kagoshima, a city at the southern tip of Japan's southernmost island of Kyushu at 7am and we will need to be back on board by 2.30 this afternoon so we are up and onshore before 8am. But what to do as we have no set plans. We take the free shuttle into the city which is a 40 minute drive and in that time we decide that we want to go to see the Volcano.
