    while about 200 years ago the Satsuma Clan jung students embarked on a Journey to Great Britain for them it was an Eye opener which transformed Japan to the Western Civilizations. However today that spirit is somewhat missing mainly in the Language speaking department. The Museum while nice and well presented is lacking basics. The Audio Guided Tour did not work.... No Wifi in the Museum otherwise google would have provided that Service....no English speaking Tour ...

    ... the old 1048 Convention based License!!!!! Not being easily discouraged went to an JAF Office to have my current License Translated to fulfill their Requirements.....only took a half a day and 3000 Yen..... It's all relative and overall actually a great opportunity to learn more about Japanese ...

    ... owner of the Ryokan had inherited the establishment from his parents who had run the place for over 40 years. The owner - Oyama-san - actually spoke really good English and was very helpful. As there was very little wind, I mentioned that I was hoping to find a windsurfer to rent so I could go and sail around the very interesting volcanic island called Chiringashima.     ... knew that Brian is very focused on kiting so they wanted to show us the coastline. We drove to a high point where we got the most amazing view of a small, uninhabited island called Chiringashima that is linked to the mainland by a one-half mile sand path. Depending on the tides, you may not be able to walk across.

    ... ready pretty quickly to check things out. After about a 5 minute train ride and a 40 minute hike we arrived at Iso Swim Beach. There was almost no wind on the beach but a wind line was approaching and it looked like it might be possible in a few minutes to kiteboard. The sea here is impressive and in the middle of Kagoshima bay is a giant smoking active volcano! Yeah, no kidding, this thing is discharging ash probably as I type!
