Leaving Sapporo, we drove along the coast for a while and through a
few fishing villages. There were thousands of dragonflies that all
seemed to be moving in one direction (migrating perhaps?) around one
of the villages. The countryside that we drove through along the
coast was quite mountainous, but absolutely beautiful. I couldn't

... Chinese in any real way. But they did have some pumpkin soup (well, miso soup with pieces of pumpkin) that went down well. Either way, I was just grateful to be indoors and out of my boot.
Tonight’s meeting was definitely a bit sparse, maybe a dozen or so, including staff. We honored a middle aged married couple for completing the 8 hour course (a group of twenty something girls opted for the 4 hour version instead—really, ...
... windows, yelling and waving flags. Then you are gathered at the door and go through a ritual of acknowledging the hike and showing respect to the setting sun. It’s a bit overly dramatic, especially since the hike isn’t that especially hard. But after a long day on the road, the sentiment was much appreciated.
