... we took a scenic route toward Santa Fe through the town of Madrid, NM. Not pronounced like the capital of Spain (MA' drid), it's a cool little art town in the mountains with a population of 208. We got to see some great cowboy and cowgirl boots and some great sculptures. We got a hot bowl of chili for lunch, then continued on to Santa Fe. It was a nice little detour although I didn't feel particularly safe walking around (I don't want to end my us trip in a sinkhole!) Today the road leads us to Roswell, New Mexico a town wrapped in Alien lore. The entire town seems to embrace the whole Alien theme and the overall atmosphere of the place reflects it as well.
Traveling through New Mexico was uneventful, very flat, dry terrain with scrub brush as far as the eye could see. There were areas where I could see further in all directions than anywhere ...
