... eats popcorn for breakfast? Peter slept through the 2 lots of popping again, I give up, might as well stay awake now. After breakfast set off west again on I-40 towards Amarillo (cannot ever see that without the song starting in your head) but go south just before the city to go to Palo Duro Canyon which is apparently the 2nd deepest canyon in the US after the Grand Canyon. The rest of the town appears to be nothing but old abandoned buildings for the most part. Still, on this stretch of road, I get to a sign welcoming me to the outskirts of Carlsbad, NM, home of Cody Ross. Since I have no idea who this guy is, I immediately have to assume he is a sports figure ...

... it impossible for anybody but me to sit in the car. No hitchhikers! Too many movies we had seen about what happens when you pick up hitchhikers, I guess! I am driving through New Mexico on day two of that move, out in the middle of a desert when the engine in my car quits. No sputter, nothing, just silence and cruising onto the shoulder. Here I am in the middle of the desert with a car that won't even turn over thinking there is no way I can walk very ...
