Day 6 - Mountains, Lakes and lots of trees...

A travel blog entry by emfletche

A 7am alarm call and the sleepy Fletche’s drag themselves over to the Alabama Hills Bakery & Café for breakfast. Seems like our sleep patterns are finally adjusting to US time… The breakfast options are very “egg-heavy” as usual, so I’m excited to spy a “No-Egg” Breakfast on
the menu.

Day 7 - The Fletches become hikers!

A travel blog entry by emfletche

Refreshed by our early night, we’re up and out of the Yosemite View Lodge at 9am. We’re off to spend the day in the Valley, and we re-enter Yosemite itself via the Arch Rock Entrance. We turn off to the Bridalveil Fall Parking Lot, and walk the short way to the base of the fall. We were prepared not to see roaring waterfalls at this …

Yosemite National Park

A travel blog entry by famzack

Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park

On Saturday night we walked miles to find some food and Visalia got better if you avoided downtown.

Yesterday we went to Sequoia National Park where we saw the huge Sequoia trees; we climbed from 600ft to 7000ft along these twisting windy roads. We felt so ill; the roads just turn back on themselves. We did a walk through the Sequoias and …

The first place we went today was Bridalveil Falls which was about a 20 minute round walk. However, they're pretty dry at this time of year. We then drove for around an hour to Mariposa Grove where we walked to the "Grizzly Giant" Sequoia tree. Lastly we drove back to the visitor centre where we got the bus to Mirror Lake where we did another walk …

    The Hotel

This hotel is very nice and the view is pretty. The pool was ok but I don't like all the wild animals running around the place. (squirrels, raccoons etc)

    God overnatning uden for Yosemite

Too Expensive, good location but average rooms

    from marsman73

Let's start with the positive: You cant get any closer to the park unless you stay in the park. However they make you pay for it as you have to pay 150+ USD for an average room. It is spacious and has a kitchenette but another 30 miles away from the park you would pay 75 USD for the same.

We stayed there for one nite and on the morning we had the company of about 100 ants in our kitchenette (and this was on the upper floor, not the basement !). Fortunately they have a lift so you dont have to carry your luggage up the stairs. The Pizza place down there is well overpriced for a below average pizza also its very dirty, havent checked out the restaurant. The supermarket seems to be reasonable priced though.

I dont mind to spend money for quality but at this lodge I find it rather painful as you get nothing in return.

    Great Stay!

    from anonymous

Stayed at the YVL for 2 nights Sept '03 and was very pleased with the lodge, room and service. Proximity to Arch Rock entrance..awesome. 2 restaurants within...ok. Kitchenette very useful as we brought some snacks and drinks for our 3 day tour/hiking at Yosemite...awesome! 2nd time in Yosemite, 1st time at this lodge. Why I missed it the 1st time, escapes me. Enjoy! Will return for sure as long as I get the same room :)

    Great Base for visiting Yosemite

    from anonymous

Just back from a week in California, including 2 nights at the Yosemite View Lodge. The hotel deserves its ratings. Staff were friendly, the restaurant is excellent value (even though it could charge a premium because of the lack of others in close proximity), the rooms spacious and clean. The best part, however, must be the fact that it is only a short drive into Yosemite Valley, so you're not wasting time on getting in and out of the Park each day. ....and a special mention for the humming birds that feed on the patio of the restaurant - just beautiful.

    Fantastic!

    from anonymous

Truly fantastic. We upgraded to a river view room with king size bed and jacuzzi for two. It was just superb - well worth the extra money!

Room was spacious with kitchen facilities and very clean. We didn't find the shop expensive for drinks, food etc and fund all staff really friendly and helpful. Fantastic location near the entrance to the park and also had a great restaurant. I had the 'Catch of the Day' twice - trout and seabass - absolutely fantastic (better than my husband's meat dishes but these were still okay.) Our eveing meals included as much as we liked from the soup and salad bar and was well within a good price range. Yosemite is a MUST and this hotel just made the whole experience unforgettable!

We loved the Yosemite View Lodge

    from nancct

We originally booked the Cedar Pines Lodge in El Portal. When we arrived the room was not what we had reserved, i.e.; no microwave, no view. They were quick to tellus the reservation went to the wrong property. They gave us the option to transfer to the Yosemite Vie Lodge and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The room was right on the river, next to the restaraunt which had great food. The room had a full kitchenette and the big jacuzzi tub was great on the body after a day of hiking in Yosemite. I will stay at the Yosemite View Lodge again.

    Wonderful, . . . BUT

    from anonymous

Rooms are excellent, especially the River View Rooms. Cannot remember staying at a more desireable hotel. However, be sure your account is straight before you leave. I was charged an extra night's lodging. When I called about it, I was promised it was a change in the Computer system and I'd receive a credit on the next credit card statement. Two months later I'm still waiting for the credit.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENED.

Can't rate this highly enough. It was our last stay of our fly-drive to California and it was, by far, the nicest hotel room. Check-in easy, beautiful location, room clean, furniture new and kitchenette very useful. Our only problem was that we only stayed 2 nights - could have stayed longer. Excellent place and located right on the road back to San Francisco. Would visit again.

    Wonderful

great hotel, doesnt look nice from off in the distance but when you get close and stay and hang out..its great. had a small museum on site, very clean -the whole place looks new. the merced river rushing by is beautiful..very tucked away... great place to stay outside the park...would NOT want to drive that awfully windy road back down to fish camp area........no sway...this was great..2 restaurants there..indoor pool, my children adored that part. would go again

    Well worth a visit

    from RJB

An excellent property, slightly wasted on me because it was a quick overnight stay. It may look like a normal 2-storey motel, but the rooms are lovely - gas fires, smart kitchen units, spa baths, good quality bedding, decent upmarket decor, good balconies and a great view overlooking the river. There are three pools, one indoor, and three jacuzzis, again one indoor. General store also available, along with an ATM, a bar / restaurant and a pizza takeaway. $169 for a Friday night in May. Its very close to the park entrance. Would come again.

Awesome, luxury property at great rates

    from lovinsac

My husband and I enjoyed a weekend trip to Yosemite and we stayed at the Yosemite View Lodge, which is right outside the park. The main benefit of staying there is that the prices are incredible for the service and amenities you get - especially when compared to what is available inside the park. The rooms have a view of the Merced River and they light it up at night, so it's breathtaking. They also have kitchenettes so we brought breakfast and snack foods. I call it luxury because they have these fabulous large spa tubs that even have double shower heads, a fireplace, and a balcony. On the property they have several pools (indoor and out) and spas, as well as 2 restaurants. Very convenient!

I should also mention that we were able to bring our dog and only had to pay an additional $5 to have her with us.

we found out great rates directly at their website www.yosemite-motels.com and now i subscribe to their newsletter and get info about their specials.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
