This was the day we all went to a relocation tour of a house
of a resident who had been relocated to a new apartment provided by the
government due to the flooding of the Yangtze River to do the 3 Gorges project.

This was an optional tour off the cruise boat. We chose this
instead of checking out a high red pagoda which we saw from the boat anyway. The
local guide interpreted for us and we could ask any questions we ...

The peculiarity of this city are the two rivers the meet each other in the middle of it - the Yangtze River that is yellow (because of the massive amount of silt it carries) and the Jialing River that is green/blue. You can see a clear line of colour where the smaller Jialing merges into the mighty Yangtze creating Chongqing's classical postcard picture.

The porters carried our luggage up the 100 steps to the awaiting minivan, for a tip of course! Visited the old city area which has been redeveloped by a local woman who wanted to maintain the old culture so persuaded the Government to retain the old building design. Across the river ...

... the same meaning as they do in Chinese but they are said completely different. So, though they cant speak Kanji (Chinese characters) to each other, they can write them. Some of the conversation took place between pen and paper and that was lost on me. A little bit later ZhangYu, one of my best friends here asked if he could bring his teacher to visit them, he told me she was a Japanese teacher and could speak Japanese very well. I told them to meet us at the coffee shop. They came and ...

... Chinese now I think. Afterwards, John met up and we got dinner with the two guys who came with me to Diao Yu Cheng. Following that, we all went back to my apartment to hang out for a bit. One of the most interesting conversations I have had in China ensued. It would be hard to say everything that was talked about, as we talked over tea for about 2 hours, but I will do my best to give you some highlights and not write a novel. The Diao Yu islands came up. I asked why the Chinese ...
