    ... the short drive to the other side of Palm Springs to the aerial tramway at Chino Canyon which goes up 8500ft. The gondola is amazing as it rotates as it climbs so you see the rock walls of the canyon on one side and the desert and City way below as you ascend, the swaying as it goes over each support is quite something too. When we did this on our first trip there was a lot of snow at the top and we couldn't go out as we didn't have ...

    ... and Josh spotted a shooting star - AMAZING! Baker, what can we say. There is one motel, we are in it. We took down main street, it took 2 minutes. There are 15 restaurants, they are all fast food joints - I guess it is a truck stop on the I-15, which is the eleventh longest interstate in the US, it serves as a long-haul route for North American commerce. So as there is nothing to do in Baker, I taught Josh how to play Canasta .... uh oh! Tomorrow we are off to Death ...

    ... the hold-up was. She then came out with Pauline's omelette which looked dry, as if it had been sitting under a hot lamp. At that point I cancelled the order and we left. The drinks were $2.50 and I left $3.00, the 50c tip was grudged.

    The next few hours were spent driving through endless desert on straight roads that just went on forever. There were no gas station for over 50 miles. We came into Palm Springs around 3:00pm ...

    Part of our challenge while in the Palm Springs area is to decide whether or not it suits us for a winter hideaway. So many of our friends and neighbours tow their trailers, 5th wheels or motor homes to the many parks in California, Arizona & New Mexico while others rent "park" models.
