    ... from the area in which we were in. We then headed down to the bottom to get on the maid of the mist. In 2008 when i was here i missed out on the boat because it was too late in the season. We checked in for the maid of the mist, got our pink plastic things and then got on for a 30 minute cruise around the falls.     ... to find anything worthwhile. We had a choice of 8 miniature toy soldiers (and I mean tiny), or give the tickets to a child who could put them towards a larger collection. Anna made the call, and I begrudgingly handed over the tickets.

    A short walk further up the hill and we settled on a Chinese takeaway for our tea. Nice and cheap, and we got to eat it whilst watching the falls. From there, we explored the Falls welcome centre, full of gift shops and restaurants ...

    ... year, with ice coating everything around and the falls themselves crashing onto a 6ft thick wedges of ice with the occasional chunk coming over.
    There were no tours running, the Maid of the Mist may have struggled without skates, and helicopters probably can't land on ice, so our 35 minutes was plenty of time to ooh and ahh and take lots of pictures.
