A test post!

(MATT) Well, I thought I'd better set up and test an online diary for Coll and myself, as we get prepared for our much anticipated jaunt to America!

We will continue to update this site as much as we can, I think mainly dependant on access to internet on our travels.

We leave home at dawn on Wednesday 23 September, and fly to Los Angeles on V-Australia, the new Australian airline which ...

Home again after an amazing trip

6.30am was touch down in Brisbane after 3 months away. Our travels included 14 flights, 8 different currencies and thousands of kilometres. We have spent wonderful times with family and friends and made many new friends along the way. We have seen amazing sites and celebrated our retirement in so many ways. Thanks to everyone who helped us have such a terrific time and to those who kept in touch with us as we travelled.

.... Enkele dagen later ....

Day #36: Volleyball and Movie night

... for 4 days....at least it will be hot there for them. Today was SUPER cold and windy. It was only 12 out, but when you are in the sun its warm. Sara drove them to the bus stop and they were off!!! Sara and I had toast for dinner.....toast and Nutella. Does anyone remember Nutella?!? It's a Hazelnut Spread; it's kinda like your putting chocolate on your toast. And you all know how much I LOVE MY CHOCOLATE!!!! Well I used to eat it ...

AMAZING RACE

... She had to go into this fancy restaurant/bar and "ask to talk to Dave". Dave was a manager at a fancy place I used to work at in Brissy - he is a friend and great man. Chrissy said he was really funny and after she opened the clue he gave her, she realized that she had to "eat everything that was placed in front of her, to receive your next clue"! So after a plate of wedges, a cocktail and a shooter, she had to jump on a ...

... guy in the city so we sat along the streets waiting for him to appear. While we waited, there was an artist spraypainting and selling his wares on the spot. An hour later, the friend didn't appear. He was already in some pub and asked us to join him there. What a bloody *******. Both of us didn't wanted to join him simply because of his attitude. Angela was still contemplating about joining him. Arrghhh. In the end, we parted ways and went back to get a good night sleep.

... speak. We are in a very large auditorium and it begins to fill quickly. I give my lecture and answer many questions. Toowoomba applauds my finsih and offers me cake and tea. I accept it gratefully and look at their faces. They are the faces of Australia and I listen to their accents, I have begun to hear it in my own voice too. "I reckon I'll get my grip" I say to one colleague, "G'night mate" G'night mate he replies. And my vaguely Australian accent is not a harsh sound in his ears ...

Travelling OZ in a Van - Week 3 - East Coast contd

... practiced and the jump went ok. I was concious of feeling quite panicky in freefall and knew I had lots more to learn. But with Ben's help I landed ok and felt really buzzed walking back into the packing hut. It's a tradition here at Ramblers (and I guess most SkyDiving places) that whenever you do any sort of '1st' that you buy a carton (crate) of beer to celebrate. So having done my 1st jump at Toogoolawah and passing my Stage-1, I handed over $45 and rang the bell to ...

... great numbers. And then there’s Schoolies Week, when Year 12 students from all over the eastern states flock to the Gold Coast every November to celebrate finishing school, which carries a pretty bad reputation with it. Even now in April it felt like a mini-Schoolies. Teenagers, no doubt on their Easter holidays, crowded around the centre of Surfers Paradise in the early hours of the morning looking drunk, bored and agitated. Older folk, dubbed ‘ ...
