Day 1 - Friday night, we drove from spartanburg to gatlinburg and arrived at the river terrace. It was lightly snowing on our ride up and was it was still snowing when we got to gatlinburg. We got to our room and then went for a walk to get ice cream. We got back to our room for some nice fireside time and relaxing. November 29 - Friday to November 30 - Saturday

Got here on leftover day! I REALLY like Blaine. Beautiful countryside, land, something about the energy of the place feels very good. Of course I am very happy getting to know Paige & Margaret, her 90 year old mother.

We leave tomorrow morning winding back toward the Bay Area in California.

Gaitlenburg looked so inviting on the map, nestled in the shadow of the Great Smoky National Park. Oh boy, a mountain town I thought. Not so. The streets are alternately lined with fudge factories, curio shops, pseudo cowboy emporiums and all other manner of delights in this godawful injustice to a vision of Hillbilly Heaven. And, as bad as this place is, it pales in the combined shadows of Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, gateways of hell. 20 miles ...

... After supper we walked a short distance to a marina that we saw as we drove in. As we walked along the shore, we could see all these moorings that were quite a distance from the water line. The marina's owner explained to us that the lake water is used for power generation. At this time of the year the lake level is about 30 feet lower than in the spring. It doesn't look so great but the bass fishermen like it.
