20 Waterton National Park

... along the Akamina Ridge via Bennett Pass and North Kintla Crest. I was proud of Cindy completing this hike since she has a fear of heights.

On our return, first priority was the shower then laundry before departing this wondrous place early the next morning. Due to the high winds along the mountain valleys, Erik (my kayak) stayed on top of the van - though I have jury-rigged it somewhat since trees broke one of the uprights ...

Glacier's construction

Riding in Glacier National Park can't be beaten except for the construction. Mind you the benefit was being stopped on some of the highest vistas of the park for more photo ops. The three stops made the ride very long but the weather was perfect and you could chat with the other poor souls trapped in the traffic jams as they waited to roll through loose gravel.

Last night in Canada

Tuesday:
When we left Dawson Creek campground we went next door to a cute pioneer village. Evelyn finds some new ideas at each village. It was a cooler (59) but sunny day. We went to Whitecourt and stayed at Saqitawah RV Park. They had a lama, donkey, rabbits, sheep, chickens, pig and I can't think of what else. The canola fields are so beautiful, the yellow is so vibrant.

Wednesday:
We headed out early this morning. I think Bill is ...

Bison bones

... suggests towards the end of the time the jump was used the fall was no longer typically fatal - this is revealed by the greatly increased number of arrow heads used in the upper levels to kill the injured animals.

Where no jump was available, other traps were designed. One option was to stampede the bison into a pen, or else into a bog, in either case holding them so that they could be slaughtered with arrows.

Beautiful Waterton Lakes

Waterton Lakes National Park is part of the "International Peace Park" with neighbouring, and much more glamorous, Glacier National Park in the United States. It is the same eco-system, same mountains and same glorious scenery, but it is the little unappreciated brother of the two parks.

Coming down from the north we spent the night just outside the park and headed into Waterton, stopping briefly in the bison paddock. While we have plenty of bison closer to home ...

Ready?

... that in one-year's time, I would not be in Canada, and that I would be happy. Fast forward a year later, I was on an exchange in Australia that has changed my outlook on life in every single way.  Without going into much detail I was able to live, work, travel and study in Australia for 7 months. I met some amazing friends from all around the globe. There were so many people and moments throughout the trip that changed the very essence of my existence. I learned that life is not ...

Temporarily Detained

... Sierra's dad) has also told us that even if we don't get our original jobs back, then we have guaranteed jobs elsewhere (but maybe not in Fort McMurray). For now, we're just biding our time and waiting for news. My mom originally thought that the reason we were being 'let go' was because of another burn I sustained, this time one that i had to ...

Ah bugga...

Well everybody. I am home, but I don't have to like it. The plane ride was uneventful, with the good staff at Air Canada pouring as much drinks down my throat as they could. Two beers, a glass of wine, a coke, and a coffee. It was nice. The night before that we went to the Lion King musical at the Lyceum theatre. It was probably the most coolesterest thing I ...

I would recommend this history of pre-historic life to anyone interested in First Nations history.
