It was another great weekend away in California visiting some relatives. I escaped the wet rainy and mild weather in Washington and came to the dry hot weather in Clayton, CA. I flew into the Oakland Airport, which can be a bit overcast and foggy, but when you journey over towards the desert, then it gets extremely dry and hot. It is really amazing over here.

We have been watching a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV in the evenings, and a number of things have struck me. First off, if it's possible, ads are even louder and even more frequent than on free-to-air TV in Australia.
Advertisements through the Olympic coverage seem to be dominated by cars. This could be because high male viewership - they do change the ads for the ice dancing: you know, mums picking up soccer kids in a giant new SUV and getting jealous stares from dads. ...
