... Dam is one of the best engineering feats of all time. The Colorado River, upon which the Hoover Dam is situated, had been a "friend and foe" of the Americans for hundreds of years, with the huge floods creating massive destruction to anything in its path, but it was the most important water source for many Southern states as well. The Hoover Dam was a necessity to harness the water strength and share it safely.

... were too early to eat lunch but finding a lunch venue proved interesting in that there was no where! We turned off what was a sizeable settlement on the map but the main road dirt track led to sporadic houses interspersed with closed down shops or community resources and nothing much else. ... time to clear the road. The only other way into Monument Valley was a huge 60 mile detour which would add at least an hour onto our journey. It was clear that we were going to miss the tour so we decided to just take our time and enjoy the view.

The approach we took in to Monument Valley turned out to be one of the best roads I've ever driven on with the most unbelievable views. Obviously I don't know what the other road looked like but it's hard to believe ...
