We are taking the scenic route today along the seaways following Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. It was a fantastic ride and the sun was out the whole day. It doesn't get any better than this.

We drove through pouring rain - did not get to stop at Lake Forge - pouring rain. By the time we got to Lake Placid the rain had stopped and it was clearing to see the mountains. Haven't been here for a long time. The whole town is new - the old Lake Placid Club isn't there any more.

... there…sort of. And therein lies a tale: Who knew (apparently thousands!) that the Lake Placid Ironman Competition was happening today on the road that we needed to travel?? Wow! According to a brochure, more than 2,500 athletes from 19 countries and 45 states participate not to mention all the support staff…and families…and friends that want to be there for their athlete…AND everyone else that just wants to see it happen! ... and 1980 Olympic Ice Rinks. The "Miracle" Ice Rink still gets me. The guy working the desk at the museum was working concessions at the rink during the 1980 US/Russia game.
We then hiked about 2 miles to the Lake Placid Lodge. Had some great drinks at the bar, and great conversation with the bar tender and other patrons.
