Anyway, this lake was created by accident. In 1900 the California Development Company began construction of irrigation canals to divert water from the Colorado River into the "Salton Sink", a dry lake bed. Worked great and farmers had a very fertile valley....for awhile, haha. The canal filled with silt within two years, so engineers dug more canals (sort of on my principle that what's worth doing is worth OVERdoing, more yuks). ...
