Dropped Erin at work then took her car to Hollywood for our Universal Studios visit. The experience has changed a lot since we were last there, and it was still good. Work on a major new "Harry Potter" ride was underway. The "Front-of-Line" tickets were great and we got on all the rides in a few minutes and therefore had time to do everything we wanted. Unfortunately we timed our return to coincide with ...

... followed by the Steam Vents. Next I drove to Thurston Lava Tube and walked through that which I enjoyed. The entrance has vines and lush ferns over the top and you walk down to the tube through a rain forest. We stopped just before 11 at Pismo Beach, a great little coastal town that sort of looks like a popular holiday place for families. After ...

This morning was another early morning as we had to be at Universal Studios for 7 am to join our VIP tour. It was a full day tour which included access to some very unique areas. We were able to walk on the sound stage for "About a Boy," walk through some of the backlot, experience a simulated earthquake, an attack by jaws, and a Circle 360 3D vision of King Kong. We even got to step in the steps of the city hall from Back to the Future. ...

Cruisin Malibu

Feeling more comfortable with the traffic in LA (when in Rome attitude has me driving like a New York cabbie), we set Gertrude for Santa Monica and a cruise along the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu, not a long drive but quite scenic.
We were in and out of Santa Monica without even noticing. It's funny how I imagined Santa Monica would look, probably based purely on some obscure input from my childhood and a song by Savage Garden... It's just a little ...
