      ... We hopped off the train and headed for the beach. I was expecting a rough sea, crashing against a huge sea wall. However, it was a very calm day, and we were actually met by a beach as far as the eye could see, and a very calm sea. The sort of sea you could stride out into and it never seems to get any deeper.       We next visited the wooden church, used for those living on the grounds of this large estate. It was simple but the altar was nice.

      The Hill of Songs is a collection of 24 sculpture works, dealing with the tradition of singing in Latvia. I'm not much into oddball pieces and it was very hot by this time of the day, compounding minimal interest. Shade the favourite venue of everybody.

      ... tires, so you can keep using your bike all through the snowy winter. My host Anna was actually disappointed that she didn't have a chance to use her 'winter bike' this year.

      Still, cyclists are the exception here. Most people prefer to use one of the many trolleybuses, trams, microbuses or plain old buses to get around. As a result (or maybe it is really the other way around), the infrastructure is really not suited for cyclists. ...

      ... off in all directions. The buildings all look authentic though are now filled with souvenir shops and I have never seen so many cafes! There were guided tour groups everywhere and the market square was full of people. Joe couldn't believe the amount of tourists there were compared to his last visit. I don't know if it's since they've taken on the Euro or the increased tourist trade, but the prices have also soared! Some of the souvenirs ...
