The world is divided into two types of people: dog people and cat people. Dog people will tell you that there is no beast more loyal and friendly than their trusted canine companion. Cat people will tell you that they love their strong-willed and independent yet cute and cuddly furry friend.

Oh, and then there is the tiny minority that is mortally afraid of anything that has more than two legs. Those people are just crazy.

... to the Latvian Beer Fest in a Riga park. A lot of fun was had by those there. There was entertainment, contests, and a huge array of beer and food to try, all very cheap.

After that went back to the hostel for a rest before dinner, which was at a medieval restaurant which used to be the city hall wine cellars. Great atmosphere here, good olden type food and drink. Well worth it.

... working well for the area. Latvia only gained independence in 1991 from 51 years of occupation from both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. We found out more on this illegal occupation of their land whilst visiting the Museum of Occupation that focussed on the years when Latvia was taken over and no longer recognised as an independent state. Like the other Baltic countries, Latvia was taken over by the USSR Soviet Union in 1940, it then was able to rid itself of ...

... of Riga is the same deal as Tallin's, very old, very pretty and very nice to spend a couple of days wandering round.

On Friday we were introduced to all of Janis' friends and the joys of Latvian rap music...

Janis' friends arrived at about 11 and then we headed to one of Riga's clubs at about 3 then Charlie and I were first to flake at 5.30.

The bus to Vilnius in Lithuania was only 4 hours but it seemed a lot longer after drinking so much the night before.
