        Motel restaurant coffee is rarely good, and today's was no exception. We decided to stop along the way for a further caffeine fix. After a couple of false starts, we stopped in Rolleston, which is, I guess, a newish outer suburb of Christchurch, or satellite town or whatever it is. The coffee was better anyway.

        Packed up and left our very comfortable flat at Rylands Estate. Lovely roses in our room and snacks and drinks in the small fridge. Their library was in the TV room and so lots of books were available.

        ... news programmes is nothing but a pigeon loft, the temporary cathedral is made of cardboard and is magnificent. Both the old and new seem to divide opinion. Locals are keen to share their experiences, however I think the most poignant thing for me, was a make shift memorial of 185 chairs painted white which people had brought together to mark the lost lives in the earthquake.
