      ... Mt. Shasta including a full blown tour of what's-what and price inquiries at all the promising hotels. We ended up staying at the Alpine Lodge, one if the more hiker priced and quality establishments in town. By the time we checked in and set our bags down it was only 6:30 pm.       Nothing like waking up next to a dirt road. There had been one bold and curious deer in the night but my timing was good and I am sure I gave it a solid scare.
