Today marks a couple of firsts. First day writing a blog, first day going to a National Park, first day of summer, and first time traveling in the new car.

So today we left at 8:45 and drove for hours to Congaree National Park. We got there and had a great picnic at the pavilion across the parking lot. We went straight inside to the Harry Hampton ...

... problems but having a good time. After we departed from this area we floated a bit more until we reached the tree house.

The treehouse was incredible! A bit of back story: A man owned the land right off the side of the river. He built a tree house as his stay in America, he traveled a lot. The house was equipped with ac and plumbing and electricity it was mind blowing. He went ...

... growing along the trail. It seemed strange to see palms in the winter! We crossed one footbridge at the end of Weston Lake Loop Trail and on the next, turned right to get on Oakridge Trail, heading deeper into the forest. Late start. We got up at 8:30. It was cold in the cab last night so I cranked up the heat waaaay too high and baked us like potatoes for the first half. I scared some dude when I went to empty my pee pot in the field behind the truck ...

... could. I became great friends with my roommates who I met on craigslist but turned out to be 2 of the most amazing people I have ever met. Their puppies are my favorite dogs in the world! They have a wonderful group of friends I have been lucky enough to hang out with and even their families have been incredibly welcoming.

Although not an ideal location, Columbia is a gem and I know that my time here will be enlightening and I WILL be sad to leave.
