... expected but still okay. Arriving in LA was very exciting! We got into a taxi and went to our hotel. Given I couldn't check in for a while I told the staff I was going to taxi it to Universal to which they told me I was crazy and I should catch the metro. It took me half an hour (very tired might I say) to find the metro and after approaching several Americans for instructions ...

... life’s blood of this city is found on the major artery of the 405, which carries commuters to and from the San Fernando Valley on a daily basis. LA has a reputation for being surface-deep, but instead the opposite is true. Los Angeles is a hard working city, ...

So having mastered walking - i got brave and decided to drive in LA. It was a reasonable idea, but no. Driving on the right sight of the road in a Stick was a step too far. I drove along the esplanade towards ...

... that picked us up and took us to our hotel. We knew the likelihood of checking in was low as it was still early but we were hoping that our luck had somewhat changed. On arrival to what seemed a very luxurious lobby we were in luck, and the nice guy found a room to which we could check into. Got to the room and collapsed on the bed. As soon as we got comfy, the phone in our room rang, I knew it was all to good to be true. For some unbeknown reason we had to leave that ...

This is when things started to go wrong. As we turned back onto rt 11, we tried to decide which direction was the correct way. I looked at the sun and said left and off we went. After awhile I noticed a sign for rt 130 - which I remembered from yesterday. We were going in the wrong direction and had gone 20 miles out of our way - 40 round trip. By the time we got back to Volcano, it was 9:30 am. I think I tried to ...
