The Azbells awoke Saturday to clouds and persistent rain showers, so we decided to postpone our trip to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello estate and take Laura to the Richmond Children's Museum, instead. As Laura walked in the rain with her jacket and umbrella throughout the day, she would intermittently say aloud, "Rain rain, go away!" We agreed with her.

It was a great weekend for the Virginia State Fair!

We are normally up in Maine on Columbus Day weekend enjoying the Fryeburg fair. This year we spent it at the Virginia State fair. I have to say it doesn't even come close to all that goes on at the Fryeburg fair when it comes to the agricultural exhibits, at least not this year. ... Kenny got on at BWI, and we rolled into NY Penn Station four minutes early. It was six hours after I got on, but it didn't seem like it. I have concluded, this summer, that riding the train is so much less stressful that even though it takes more time, it doesn't feel like it. Flying two hours feels like forever; riding a train for six hours is a nice rest.

... an almost completely dark room and Volcano goes in and out of a mountain like a volcanic explosion. We finished up the coasters hitting Avalanche, Ghoster Coaster, and Dominator. ... their would be artists and such - like along the Seine in Paris, but instead we found a different sort of art - graffiti art. Some of it was quite amazing. I'm not sure if it was sanctioned or not - but there were huge, detailed paintings - covering 15-20 feet of the canal wall. All very bright and colorful. We enjoyed walking along the canal and viewing this different perspective of art - and actually found it to be almost as enjoyable as some ...
