... I have to say that although the sculptures were impressive, they were nowhere as big as I was expecting. Took the obligatory photos, and walked some of the way around the very pristine paths that went right to the edge of the rock face with the
Presidents above. In case you're wondering the 4 presidents in the sculpture are: Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt & Thomas Jefferson. On the way out we asked some other tourists to take our photo as a ...

If you should ever find yourself in this part of the country we would recommend both Custer State park and the Norbeck Byway ...
... the difference in the pictures since this friend was actually a part of the round up.
We've also included a link to the state park and this annual event. It is definately something everyone should plan on attending at least once - it is truly a unique experience.

... the animals loved. We also wondered about the lady walking along the road a mile or two back and the herd was going her way.
We were so lucky to be close enougth to see the herd. They looked very natural and undisturbed. Our drive continued up and we saw more groups of buffalos on their own. One group had a mother, teenager, and pre-adolescent buffalo eating grass. There were also goat and deers.
... It serves as a symbol of democracy. Borglum carefully picked each president for his monument. Washington is considered our nation’s father. Although he was a military man for much of his life, Washington was a man who loved peace. He was unanimously voted to be our nation’s first president. Although Washington could have easily served a third term due to his popularity, he firmly believed that a president should not have so much power…..

After Vermillion, we decided not to go through Sioux Falls but took back roads through South Dakota. One of our first stops on the way was in Yankton, SD where we had some potent Espresso drinks at an Espresso coffee house, we had 3-4 shots of espresso to prepare us for the long drive, which we didn't think it would be. We kept on driving through the Plains that were filled with fields of corn (field corn not for consumption we think based on what Sam told ...
Angostura Reservoir State Recreation Area, South Dakota, United States spiraljourneyWe hit the road with no set agenda. Our destination was Yellowstone but we knew it was a really long drive. When planning the trip we hadn't been able to find a suitable stopover point so we were playing it by ear. It was quite a nice feeling just to be driving and see where we turned up.

Lusk, Wyoming, United States oppenheimers... had finished working on the van I washed and shampooed in the creek. Then I started on the second painting of the trip. One of the little creek that ran behind the campground. Later as dark came on I started a campfire and had plenty of firewood because of all that was leftover by the weekenders. With dark night coming on I enjoyed the sound of the fire crackling and the ...
Beaver Creek Campground, Wyoming, United States greenvanartusa... Cave http://www.nps.gov/jeca/index.htm , as the site says Jewel Cave at 146 miles is the second longest cave in the world. One of the things that is nice about it is that they try to keep it from becoming like many cave tourist attractions and protect the integrity of the site.
After my tour there it was getting on toward evening so I stopped at the Moon Camp Ground in the national forest for the night.
