Pottering

Had a great day just pottering around. First day in a long while that I didn't have to set an alarm! Had a lazy day looking around some Of the local beach shops. This place is full of snow birds. (my patient had to explain this to me)! It's a person (usually retired) who moves down to Florida in the winter, to escape the snow of the north. What surprised me is that most of the shop staff are senior citizens too. We were talking about this the other night- ...

... around the shops and stopped for a coffee and to open my birthday cards. It's so warm, it really doesn't feel like my birthday -apparently its snowing at home-Luton airport has had to close! Was lovely to open some cards. My best friend jess (who gave me a card in aug-that's ridiculous planning!) always puts confetti in her cards-but for some reason, I forgot this. I opened the card whilst sat outside the cafe, and it exploded glittery champagne glasses all over me! Made ...

Larry, now remembering yesterday's event when they drove over this bridge his dad had said, "I wonder what this bridge is for, I don't see any tracks and there's no river." And that's all that was said with no conclusions made from the observation! Yet even on her bike, Devon rode right past the Trail Head anyway! ...

    Loved the Thunderbird

    from anonymous

We were on our way back from Tarpon Springs, Fl. and saw an ad in the travel guide for Florida about the Thunderbird Beach Resort and decided to stay there for the night. It was a very well kept facility, clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Nice spa and heated swimming pool. Would recommend it to our friends and stay there again.

    The Thunderbird: Please Read

    from anonymous

We spent almost two weeks at the Thunderbird. Had a wonderful vacation.

Met alot of great locals at the Tiki Bar. Didn't have any problems until checkout time. They charged us an extra $88.00 for a rollaway which they suggested we use do to the fact one of the kids was sleeping on the floor. An extra cot was never brought to the room. We had to go and get it because they said noone was available. So, basically between the three people that spoke to us nobody said anything about a charge.

Also, our sheets were not changed the whole time and the assistant manager wouldn't even speak to us. The guy at the front desk was probably the rudest person I have ever met. And the room is not big enough for 5 people{if u ask}because I did and they said yes. Thanks

    Fantastic vacation!!

My husband and I recently returned from a much needed vacation at the Thunderbird Resort on Treasure Island. We had never traveled to Florida before, and had selected our accomodations based on the other reviews we read. We were not disappointed! The hotel was neat and clean, very friendly and helpful, with an absolutely gorgeous view of the gulf and white sandy beach. The live entertainment at the Tiki Bar was a definite plus--very relaxing and fun, although due to some unusually cold weather, it had to be canceled on a couple of the evenings. The hotel also had a great location for our needs...close to lots of shopping and attractions, and made exploring the Clearwater/St. Pete area very easy. There was a slight mix-up at check out, due to a new clerk on staff, however the problem was remedied pleasantly and efficiently. We would definitely stay here again!

    Another great trip

My group and I just came back from our fourth stay in the last four years at the Thunderbird. Once again, our stay was great! David and his excellent staff were courteous, efficient and helpful to me and my staff. The rooms are neat and clean, and the grounds of the hotel are beautiful -- and the rooms are an excellent value.

I cant remember the last time I saw a better view outside the Carribean. The white sand beaches of TI are GREAT, and if you are there for any length of time, be sure to have a meal at Karim's -- my whole group agreed it was the best lamb they've had.

All in all, I highly recommend if you plan to visit this area that you stay at the Thunderbird.

    WONDERFUL

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Thunderbird around the last week of October. We really enjoyed ourselves. We stayed in the room next to the Tiki Bar. (If you are traveling with kids you might not want the room next to the Tiki Bar.) We could sit on our balcony watch the sunset, enjoy a couple cocktails and listen to a little beach music. The music usually ended around 9pm. A few of the locals frequented the Tiki Bar. Everyone we talked with was very nice. You also must eat at Karim's Bistro.

    Everything was awesome!!

    What a view!

Just returned last night...what a view we had from our room (gulf front efficiency). Nice room, live entertainment on the weekends, accomodating staff..I plan on going again next year...

    WHAT A GREAT FIND!

    from anonymous

We just returned this morning from a wonderful vacation in FL. We spent the last 3 days of our trip at Treasure Island. The Thunderbird was a wonderful ending to our trip! Upon entering the courtyard there are beautiful palm trees, beautiful flowers, an inviting pool/jacuzzi and a fabulous view of the beach! Although the place has an older motel feel, it is very well maintained and provides all the usual things you expect at a beach resort. We stayed in one of their rooms that had a small kitchenette (oven, toaster, microwave, fridge)...highly recommend! We were able to stop at the nearby grocery store & get lunch items to save the hassle of getting cleaned up for lunch! (though there is a McDonalds and a pizza place right across the street and a higher end bistro in the lobby). Our spacious room came with a king size bed, love seat, and the other usual ammenities. The best part was the beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony with 2 chairs and a lounge chair.

The other rooms looked nice as well - all opening up into the courtyard. The courtyard was a nice place to go when we were "beached out". The tiki bar provided a nice tropical feel, without it being too noisy or crowded. The resort also provides you with beach towels...a nice perk. Bring along a bag for the beach! There a millions of shells lining the beach!! I'd also recommend that you bring a beach umbrella with you or buy one from the beach stores across the street ($7)...the sun got pretty intense in the afternoon. The alternative was the beach chairs and umbrellas conveniently set up all along the shore line. They rent for $12/day. There are a bunch of restaurants up and down Gulf Blvd. to choose from. The fun is deciding what you'll try each night.

We found John's Pass to be a nice waterfront boardwalk/tourist area.

Good seafood. Fun atmosphere. Close by - maybe a mile North of Thunderbird. Great place to go if you're looking for a relaxing, no stress spot! Price for the incredible ocean view is really reasonable!!

    I highly recommend Thunderbird!

    A lot of Fun!

    from anonymous

We are locals and live about 8 miles down the beach but being married for twenty five years we try to find the time every month or two for a night out. Sometimes it is nice just to be a "tourist" for a day. We were looking for pool, jacuzzi, beach front rooms with private balcony, a great location with many restaurants and nightlife, cleanliness and a good price. I looked and found very little from Clearwater to Sarasota.

Either too expensive, not beachfront, no jacuzzi, no balcony or just not within walking distance of anything. We were very pleased and surpised with the Thunderbird. It was fun, light oldies music at the Tiki bar, all ages all outside having fun at the pool, large patio area and jacuzzi. Clean grounds, clean room, easy check in and out good price and if you save your receipt they give you $15 off the next stay.

The area is older, like the motel, and not fancy but is loaded with music, food, shops, McDs, etc all within walking distance. We are going back in two weeks.

    Absolutely Wonderful!

Just returned 5/15/03 from the most wonderful vacation we have ever had! The resort was well maintained, food was great, beautiful weather, gorgeous sunsets - Highly recommend the Thunderbird Beach Resort in Treasure Island, FL, to anyone that wants a relaxing, worry-free vacation. We went in the off-season so there were very few people, both at the resort & on the white-sand beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the area is beautiful. This would also be a great family resort, but if you're looking for somewhere to go on the Gulf without your kids, etc., The Thunderbird is the place!

    A very nice motel

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Thunderbird Beach Resort during our stay on Treasure Island. This was a very clean motel. The staff was courteous and the grounds were well maintained along with the pool and hot tub. There is a tiki bar on site, but this did not pose any kind of problem regarding noise or people getting unruly. The only negative thing I could say about the Thunderbird is if you left any kind of food item laying around, the ants took no time in finding it. Ants were the only pest I noticed during my stay. The room was very spacious and we had ample room to move about and be comfortable. Plenty of fresh towels were always available. The motel also has room service and on-site restaurant but we didn't partake of this service. There is a wonderful pizzaria across the street from the motel, but I can't remember the name. Great pizza though! Just keep it away from the ants!
