... ankles - too cold for me, although Wes went in deeper..

Had lunch in a quaint little cafe which was a secondhand bookshop. There were rows of coffee cups hanging on hooks each with a person's name above the hook. People go there and have their own cup to use - the cups are all the same - bought from the cafe. I had a sandwich made out of rye swirl bread - looked like a chocolate swirl cake. After picking apples, I walked around the hay fields and the trail to the lower "40" until later when Chuck and I went to find his deer stand. It's still there after 30 years.

I can't even begin to describe the last 8 days. We haven't done anything really exciting, but these last few days have been darn close to heaven. ...

My kind of day

... The rest if the town surrounds the hill, with a huge church at the top, behind which I have pitched my tent. I write this from the bar downtown, and beers are an inexplicable $1.50. Perhaps it is Michigan's taxes, or this place is just awesome, either way it is treating me well. Today is kind of day. Early start with sunlight, hearty breakfast, early finish, quiet, free place to camp, good bar, good food. Good night. Mercer WI > Crystal Falls MI, 90 miles, day ...
