... well as modest cottages all with large windows facing the ocean scenery. The drive winds it's way into Pacific Grove and on to Monterey. We got back into town about 11:30 so grabbed a bite at MacDonalds and then headed for Monterey Pines Golf Course where we had booked a tee time at 12:25 through Golf Now for 56.00 including cart with GPS . This is a course that is located on the Navy Base there and is well manicured and very player friendly. We had a leisurely round ...

... bus ride up to the castle, which sits at about 1600 feet. We then took a small drive to see the elephant seals in their natural habitat along the coast- at (appropriately named) elephant seal beach. While walking out on the Pier we looked over the side and saw a sting-ray which ...

... grass galore and evidence of massive land slides and road washouts. We went through tunnels and over narrow bridges that were hundreds of feet above the sea. We also drove on roadways that hugged the cliffside and contained hairpin turns.

I am glad we did it but I’m not anxious to do it again soon.

    So Many Sand Dollars

We left LA and headed north on California Highway 1. We decided we would drive as far as we wanted for the day and then find a place to camp on the beach. As we made our way up the California coast, driving through Malibu and Santa Monica we were both in awe of the beautiful scenery. The blue of the ocean was very similar to the water on the southern Florida coast and in the Gulf of Mexico - just magnificent. We had ocean on one side of the car and mountains on the other - ...
