Thunder, Thunder, Thunder Bay HO!!!!!

... on the remaining half. This was a bloody nightmare!!! Add to this the fact that we were told that bears had been sniffing about the last tent that was put up on the lawn only a few weeks previous, and you can imagine that it was hardly a restful night.

There were some interesting characters at the hostel too. We were greeted by Wayne, a former squaddie from Bolton, who had been working at the hostel for the past 3 weeks. He had ...

Faith Stop #2

... to the other person, no matter how small it is.

Example #1. I stop for gas and have to go to the washroom. The stall I’m in is out of toilet paper. Lucky for me there is a second roll of paper “hidden” in the holder. I hit the second roll at the top of the holder and it clangs down. The guy in the other stall yells, “here”, and hands me a roll of toilet paper over the top of the wall. Now, how did he know I needed some toilet paper? He ...

Road construction

Today we drove through Northern Ontario with its lakes and hills and trees. There is a lot of poplar and some spruce, lots of small lakes and a few little towns and villages. The economy is heavily dependant on the tourist trade. We passed the paper mill in Dryden. A lot of road construction made the trip slow and we did not get as far as we hoped. As we stopped for the construction we could see swarms of black flies outside the windows. I guess there was not enough heat this ...

... kaum Sonne.

Richtung Great Lakes

From Thunder Bay to Nipigon

When we left Thunder Bay this morning, we drove on the Terry Fox Highway of Courage and went past his memorial, high off to the side of the highway. But we did not stop, on the way to Nipigon, Ontario We got an early start, on our way by 8:15 am. The weather was sunny ...

Dryden to Nipigon, more of the same.

... the car and catch a lift on what I thought was the major highway. This proved to be a minor blunder. All my good luck of the day had worn off and I waited at a Storeless gas station for about 4 hours. It was at this time that I decided to add a massive smiley face to my cardboard to brighten the smiles of those passing by. More singing and more crazyiness till I got a lift from a foreman of a logging company driving into town. He ...

More pine and aspen

With a 'bon jour' and a kiss on the hand, we lost our charming steward Jean-Robin when the entire crew changed at Winnepeg. Surprisingly, most of the crew had worked their jobs for many years, drawn largely by the hours. Four or five 18 hours shifts followed by 5-7 days off. A one hour stopover gave us time ...

... that it wasn't and pulled back onto the road. I was fascinated at what was in the Provincial Park and made a promise that I would come back and visit it later that day. I had no idea what was in store for me when I went back to visit it later that afternoon. I walked the trail through the park and saw lots of different flower species. I then came across the bridge. I walked over that and looked down ...
