There follows a long section where the path traverses a desert of black volcanic rock and sand. It is fairly featureless and after a while a little boring. Cristine's sister Erika was with us), and the boom-booms high above, but I couldn't help but wonder about what was ahead of us; our journey had just begun, the flight to Reykjavik, Iceland, departed in the morning, the world was waiting for us. It was more than a little difficult to pretend like we weren't worried about what lay ahead. Now, a year ago to the day, I'm sitting in my kitchen in Lake Tahoe looking back in awe and mild disbelief. Did we really do it? Did we really quit ...
