... Peninsula. Looked at Gilchrist, that had been wiped out by Hurricane Ike in 2008. Now rebuilt, with all homes built on stilts high above ground. Caught the FREE ferry to Galveston. First ferry since Ireland! Drove to Johnson Space Centre. Did tram tour that took us to the original Mission Control used for Apollo programs, ( like being on the set of "Apollo 13".) and then to the Saturn V rocket shed. Apparently this rocket ...

Andrew, Sara and Emerson fly today to Australia for 3 weeks. We wish them safe travelling.

Set off west, across Louisiana into Texas. Miles of motorway elevated above swamps, with resident alligators. Crossed Henderson Swamp on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, second longest in U.S. at 18.2 miles long. Passed Breaux Bridge, crawfish capital of the world, and Lafayette, bisque capital!

Saw lots of oil refineries at Beaumont, ...

... getting very brave with our driving now. Even going out in the middle of the day. Took a bit of a tour around Galveston and found ourselves down at Pier 21 where we cushy up with the history of Galveston and the Great storm of 1900. Who would have thought a place once sung about actually has some amazing history? Today it was a nice day temperature-wise (22 degrees), but very foggy. We couldn't even see the gulf from the sidewalk 10 feet away. The forecast was also for thundershowers, so we decided to head to the Rainforest Pyramid.

They just completed $25 million in enhancements to the building, following damage from Hurricane Ike. It's a 10-story arborium, but with birds and exotic animals. What's different is that the birds and monkeys are all loose - ...

... all four wheels of the RV as they were nearly metal-to-metal and squealing when we stopped. They got the parts and replaced the brakes in plenty of time before it was Happy Hour at Joe's Crab Shack again and more site seeing along the coastline. We left Sunday morning with our intended destination being Ransom Road RV Park in Aransas Pass, TX.
