I decided to create this travel blog for Kyoko, family and friends who want to keep in touch with me. So they can see who, what, when, why and how I’m going. I’m not planning on doing all the usual touristy things and I don’t plan to go out partying all night and sleeping in all day.

... was our first hotel on the trip and it was really nice. Kitchen, sky tv, cd player, bathroom and our room was on the 5th floor in the corner of the building so we got a nice panoramic view of the mountains in the distance. The town itself revolves around a central square which is full of trees, fountains and ducks so immediately it has a nice atmosphere about it. ... one point, a sheetrock delivery truck which was in front of us came upon an approaching tandem log carrier and we all came to an abrupt stop. It was great fun watching the truck in front of us hang the outermost rear dual wheel over airspace as he cleared the other truck which was nearly wedged against the rock ledge which walled the inside lane. ... 3.30ish. It rained all afternoon. Watched an episode of the Mighty Boosh though. Tuesday 15th April: Today we left Levin. It was actually kind of sad to leave and say bye to Jane, after we stopped doing anything with the horses it was a better experience but I am glad to be moving on at the same time. So we had a group hug and then waited for the bus. We arrived at Napier at 12.50pm and the rain we had been hoping to leave in Levin followed us there.

This somewhat startled Jacob when he went to use the tree for, well, what blokes in fields tend to slope over to trees for...and there it was, at eye level, not making any attempt to vacate. It being twilight, it took a few moments to realise that it wasn't real. The music went on. We didn't know many of the tunes. We went to bed, feeling old.

... The whole family swim was about 3 quid. We weren't in the mood for sightseeing and I'm not sure that there were many so we just took it easy at the site for the evening. As we were dropping of the camper van the next day we decided to eat the contents of the fridge. Pot noodles on toast with beer has always been a favourite of mine

... I feel truly lucky. Anyway, I continued on down, passing Ohakune (where I stayed last year) and turning up in Bulls. This place always makes me chuckle - at least it too has a sense of humour with naming its buildings 'Soci-a-Bull' etc. I stopped a few times en route to refuel both the car and myself. I had begun to suffer from drivers collarbone (which I am sure isn't a condition, but really ought to be) from driving too much ...

... milling and trading in flax. Foxton became the flax capital of New Zealand. To commemorate the propserity of the town, De Molen windmill was errected and can be seen from miles around. Foxton also has a well preserved High Street, with the old-style colonial shop facades and broad street. It has barely been touched for about 50 years ...

... are basically like a fly on the wall, being a voyeur into other people's lives. So cool. Other than that, we also spent a day out at Himitangi beach, which is about 25mins out of Palmy. The Tasman Sea is wonderful to swim in! And, at the beaches here, you can just drive your car right onto it, so there's no parking lot. Just make sure you obey the beach speed limit of 40km/h! Anyhow, I'll try and post this now before it gets erased again!
