        We left Yankton around 8 am with our sights set on Chamberlin for lunch, driving along the Missouri River, with plenty of twisty roads overlooking the Muddy Mo. We drove through several apparently abandoned towns along Native American Reservations, with run-down houses, barns, and community buildings. After awhile the road turned to gravel, adding a new element of adventure.

        ... on the Apache reservation was a high respect for the military. A large portion of the morning events and the Grand Entrance were dedicated to those in the military. Speaking to some of the tribe members, it is a respected part of the culture to be a veteran.

        The Grand Entrance was great part to see as it included all different tribes and young, old, male, and female.

        The experience, I think, it better told in the pictures.

        Waukee, IA to Yankton, SD. Iowa is flat, windy, green farmland. So gorgeous, except for the hundreds of huge wind turbines. Lewis and Clark were in Yankton, SD. We traveled part of the route of the Corps of Discovery which is what Lewis and Clark's expedition was called. Sent by Thomas Jefferson to explore what the United States bought from Napoleon in the Louisiana Purchase. We will explore Yankton more tomorrow. ...
