Had breakfast in the hotel and when we left it seemed a lot warmer this morning. We decided to follow the guide book and go to Hot Springs but as soon as we left it absolutely poured, you could hardly see the cars in front - amazingly some didn't even have their lights on but once it stopped the ride was nice into Hot Springs. Apparently it had been a favourite resort of gangsters back in the 30s before they moved on ...
... a while since they were in business. It's sad to see these mom and pop shops and hotels crumbling down. I guess when interstate 40 went in, folks could travel faster and stopped taking route 66. Small town America gone.
As we neared the Texas border, there were more buttes and mounds flanking the highway...there were a few trees but mostly red, bare earth as we left New Mexico. ...
... They sound almost like tropical birds they are so loud. I have never heard anything like it. Tomorrow I will take some pictures of the site. It is in the Ozarks. The woods are quite pretty. Today we drove from Kansas through Oklahoma and crossed the border into Arkansas.
