I don't have a clue how many copper mines there were in the valley but at one time there were at least 4 or 5 smelters that received ore from the mines and would use a smelter to work down the copper to a pure material and drag off ...

back through the beautiful mountains of Nevada we saw the most breath
taking sunset and as the skies went a beautiful red we crossed the
Hoover bypass and had the perfect view of the Hoover dam. The perfect
way to end the perfect day! We got back to El Cortez at around 10pm ,
after having only about 3 hours at the Canyon but was totally worth
... hot with the highest being 38.5C. The sun was so bright I had to put a pair of 'fit-over' sunglasses over my glasses and clip-on sunglasses. The fit-over sunglasses also helped keep the wind from drying out my eyes. As I was going an average of 75mph on the highway (if I went the backroads it would take twice as long) I did not take any photos.
So tomorrow I will be going to the Pima Air and Space Museum another bucket list item :)
