    ... morning we drove south along Hwy 31 - called the Oregon Outback which had us in rain and snow for over 209 miles. Beautiful snow and good roads. Although we planned to stay in Likely,CA the park was closed due to snow, so we motored on to Susanville to see my family. Then headed back to Wilton over Hwy 80 and more new snow.     ... area”; there you could easily see the devastation caused by the 1915 eruption. Further down the road we came to an area where 350 years ago three large avalanches brought an enormous amount of rock plummeting down the mountainside and covering the area in many feet of loose rock, and as a result the few trees growing here are all dwarfed. This was definitely a National Park that should be on everyone’s must see list.

    ... desert that we had seen in Nevada until we started to gain altitude and we started to see some short trees; the lack of water limits the number and size of the trees and bushes. We found a nice campground in the town of Susanville CA, at the Susanville RV Park, where we have wide level concrete parking pads with some grass / weeds between the sites. In the afternoon we explored the area in and around the town of Susanville.
