      ... desert that we had seen in Nevada until we started to gain altitude and we started to see some short trees; the lack of water limits the number and size of the trees and bushes. We found a nice campground in the town of Susanville CA, at the Susanville RV Park, where we have wide level concrete parking pads with some grass / weeds between the sites. In the afternoon we explored the area in and around the town of Susanville.

      ... shaded side area, pulled out my Thermarest chair, my drink, and my lunch (made before I left this morning), and just chilled for a while. There's something about the smell of mountains and views like this that just lifts my heart, and I felt very, very happy.

      ... following day was a drive to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The visitor Center was open but roads were closed, due to snow. The VC film was excellent and explained the 4 types of volcanos in the park. We were able to walk a mile up the closed off road to the Sulphur Works and check out some geothermal activity. Tomorrow is Sunday and we may just hang out here, one more night than planned, and leave here on Monday. We may get to Oregon next move, maybe not.
